Bethesda UMC
Bethesda UMC has been a Haw Creek staple since the 1800’s. We work in partnership to build community on Sundays and beyond. Currently pastored by Rev. Ben Shaeffer, they would love to welcome you into their doors on Sunday mornings. https://bethesdaumcavl.org/
The Educational Garden Project
The Educational Garden Project is a non profit organization aimed at cultivating food and pollination concepts with children and their families. We encourage all by sharing simple things that anyone can do to directly address equity issues, climate change, hungry households, overflowing landfills, our obesity epidemic, nutrition related health issues and more. We provide a Kid’s Garden Camp for our community where children cook and grow food together. https://www.theeducationalgardenproject.org/
Got Food Farms/Kamp Fun
Started by Haw Creek Commons member Robbie Stafford, Got Food Farms and Kamp Fun have one goal - to let kids be kids. After starting a community garden for our neighborhoods section 8 housing, Robbie realized that the kids weren’t getting the opportunity to get outside and have fun. He stepped up to create Kamp Fun, a program that happens every Friday that involves lunch, soda, slip n slides, and more!
Forest Floor
Since 2011 Forest Floor has provided the Asheville area with Nature-Connection Mentoring programs designed to re-connect youth and adults with the natural world while coalescing a vibrant nature-based community. http://www.ontheforestfloor.org/
Crossroad Commons
Crossroad commons aims to create a tangible and intangible environment for teens to find common ground, navigate through this important crossroads in their life while offsetting some of the isolation presented by the current covid reality. We are here to advocate for the teen who feels disenfranchised, who is looking for connection, a space outside of the home to work, create, engage, and expand in. https://www.facebook.com/CrossroadCommons
Thrive Adventures is a Christian outdoor ministry whose mission is to provide space for others to escape the stress and busyness of life in order to connect with God and others. We believe that there is no better place within which to do so than in the midst of Creation. Therefore we offer day adventures such as hiking in Pisgah National Forest as well as standup paddleboarding and whitewater rafting on the French Broad River. We offer all of our day adventures FOR FREE! We simply ask that our participants consider paying it forward so that others can experience our adventures free-of-charge.
We also offer weekend adventure retreats and overnight camping trips which provide an extended opportunity to find spiritual rest and communion with God and others. We would love to have the opportunity to serve you! If interested in booking an adventure, please contact Peter Ivey at peter@thriveadventures.org or visit this link.
